Father Dr Camille Bulcke, India's famous Christian Hindi scholar, made a remarkable difference when in 1945 he chose to write his PhD thesis in Hindi at University of Allahabad. The same thesis was later published as the book 'Ramkatha Ki Utpatti aur Vikaas' in 1949.

In 1935, left Belgium and came to India; taught mathematics and learned Hindi in Jharkhand. Being a multi-lingual, he already knew five European languages and Sanskrit, he mastered Brajbhasha and Awadhi, along with Hindi during his stay at Gumla, Jharkhand. He acquired Indian citizenship in 1951. In 1955, published English-Hindi glossary; in 1968, published Angrezi-Hindi Shabdkosh; translated important works from different languages into Hindi. The translation of Annie Besant's autobiography was his last project which remained incomplete. Apart from translations, he spent his life researching Tulsidas, Ramcharitmanas, and similarities between Ram and Christ.

On the auspicious occasion of the Belgian-Indian father Dr Camille Bulcke's 107th birth anniversary, Scroll brings to you the full story of his linguistic and literary journey in India to become Baba Bulcke.
