As we move towards witnessing centenary celebrations of
 Indian Cinema in 2013,
Vani Prakashan
ushers in a new series on Cinema and associated crafts.

The first in the series

A Textual Study of The Apu Trilogy

by a teacher who flagged Film Appreciation as a classroom discourse for the first time in India.

Prof. Satish Bahadur (1934-2010) was a Doctorate in Economics and Founder Member of Agra Film Society. Being discovered by Marie Seton at Agra, he along with his comrade-in-arm P.K. Nair, the founder director of the National Film Archives, Pune traveled across the country to introduce and inculcate critical film appreciation.

This book is a delicate and careful compilation of his class notes on Satyajit Ray's most celebrated Apu Trilogy: Pather Panchali (Song of the Little Road), Aparajito (The Unvanquished) and Apur Sansar (The World of Apu). Te films were completed between 1955-1959 and were based on two Bengali novels written by Bibhutibhushan Bandhopadhyay: Pather Panchali (1929) and Aparajito (1932). These notes are put together by his fellow faculty at FTII Dr. Shyamala Vanarase.

The book is available in Hindi.

Available at all leading Book Stores and Distributors.
